Heteralonia nigripilosa Yao, Yang & Evenhuis, 2009, sp. nov.

Heteralonia nigripilosa sp. nov.

(Figs. 3, 18–23)

Diagnosis. Wing with vein dm-cu with two spur-veins, one directed basally, one directed distally; wing with dark brown spots near all cross veins. Epandrium subtriangular; cercus well exposed in lateral view; epiphallus widely clubbed, with an M-shaped tip in dorsal view.

Description. Male. Body length 7 mm, wing length 8 mm.

Head black with brown pollen; ocellar tubercle dark brown. Hairs on head mostly black; frons with erect black hairs and recumbent black scales, face with dense black hairs and scales; occiput with short black hairs and sparse yellowish scales, and with dense erect black hairs on edge. Antenna black, except tip of first flagellomere brown; scape nearly three times longer than wide, with dense long black hairs; pedicel slightly wider than long, with short black hairs; first flagellomere cone-shaped, bare, with a tiny stylus at tip of flagellomere. Antennal ratio: 3:1:5. Proboscis black with short black hairs; palpus black with black hairs.

Thorax black with pale pollen. Hairs on thorax mostly black, bristles black; postpronotal lobe with long black hairs, mesonotum with row of long yellowish white hairs at anterior margin and four long black lateral bristles near base of wing, postalar callus with five black bristles; thorax with black scales and sparse yellow scales on back but bare in middle; epimeron with black hairs. Scutellum with black scales anteriorly but bare on other part; scutellum with four black bristles each side. Legs [hind leg broken] black with black scales except tibiae brown with dense pale scales. Hairs on legs mostly black, bristles black. Femora with sparse long black hairs; tibiae and tarsi with short yellowish hairs. Hind femur with three av apically. Mid tibia with five ad, seven pd, five av and six pv. Wing (Fig. 3) with partly infuscate, hyaline posteriorly; vein dm-cu with two spur-veins, one short and directed basally, another long and directed distally; wing with much darker brown spots near all cross veins compared to other part. Base of vein C with black hairs. Wing with basicosta strong; vein r-m nearly at middle a little closer to tip of discal cell. Halteres brown with yellowish tip.

Abdomen black with black and white scales. Hairs on abdomen mostly black; dorsum with dense long black hairs laterally except tergite 1 with white hairs laterally; dorsum with dense white recumbent scales laterally and black scales at middle except tergite 1 with white scales at middle. Sternites with long black erect hairs and dense black recumbent scales.

Male genitalia (Figs. 18–23). Epandrium subtriangular, slightly longer than high, and with distinct lateral extension at base; cercus large and well exposed in lateral view; epandrium subquadrate, slightly longer than wide in dorsal view; gonocoxae with many black hairs apically, distinctly narrowing apically in ventral view; gonostylus thick at base, acute at tip and distinctly curved in lateral view; epiphallus widely clubbed, with a M-shaped tip in dorsal view, distiphallus acute and short in lateral view.

Female. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype male, CHINA: Yunnan, Xiaguan, Guogaishan (N 25°35’ E 100°13’), 31. VII. 1987, Qiang Li.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Etymology. The species epithet derives from the Greek “ nigripilosa ” [= black hair]; referring to the black hairs on the epimeron.

Remarks. The new species is similar to H. sytshuana Paramonov, but it can be separated from the latter by the following features: wing with hyaline section much larger; abdominal tergite 1 with white lateral hairs; epiphallus with a M-shaped tip in dorsal view. In H. sytshuana, the wing is mostly infuscate; the abdominal tergite 1 has the yellowish lateral hairs; the epiphallus has a round tip in dorsal view.
