Diuncus clerodendronae
Creators
Description
Diuncus clerodendronae (Schedl 1952c) comb. n.
Previous genus: Xyleborus
Diagnosis: The species differs from other Diuncus spp. in that each interstria 2 to 5 bears one conical tooth (4 on each elytron) on top of elytral declivity, creating an array of teeth, four on each elytron (in most other Diuncus only interstriae 2 and 3 usually bear denticles).
Discussion. The species bears all characters identifying it as Diuncus: the antennae are of type 1, very flat; the pronotum is rounded, short, with two prominent serrations on the anterior edge; very slender protibiae; no signs of mesonotal or elytral mycangium, and the declivity is broadened posteriad and surrounded with elevated carina.
Previously synonymized species: Xyleborus clerodendronae alpinus Schedl, Xyleborus clerodendronae morosus Schedl
Biology: One of only two Diuncus from Africa.
Examined material: Nigeria, Kamatan, (BMNH).
