Description

Orthotrichia conferta Wells

(Fig. 9)

Orthotrichia conferta Wells, 1983: 634, figs 12, 13

Remarks. The specimen illustrated here from Fishery Falls on the eastern side of the Bellenden Ker Range, in the Wet Tropics of northeastern Queensland, differs from the type in having the right lateral lobe on abdominal tergite VIII angled at about mid length and the paramere angled in one plane near the base and again subapically, rather than both smoothly curved, and in having the dorsal process of each inferior appendage only very shallowly divided apically. Another similar specimen in the ANIC, collected from the Hastings River in northern-eastern New South Wales shows some other small differences.
