Genus Galgula Guenée, 1852

Galgula Guenée, 1852, in Boisduval & Guenée, Historie Naturelle des Insectes. Species G é n é ral des Lépidoptéres. 6: 239. Type-species: Galgula hepara Guenée, 1852, (North America), a junior subjective synonym of Galgula partita Guenée, 1852.

Galgula is mostly a New World genus with three described species, distributed predominantly in the Neotropical region. Only G. partita is known from the Old World, and is probably introduced by human activities. The main diagnostic characters are described below in the diagnosis of the species.
