Description

Stenolis gilvolineata sp. nov.

(Fig. 2)

Description. Male. Integument black. Pubescence predominantly black dorsally except for pale-yellow maculae as follows: line present around superior lobes of eyes; broad longitudinal line on each side of pronotum, continuous on elytra from base to apex. Ventral side of body and legs covered with grayish pubescence.

Antennae reaching apices of elytra at base of antennomere V. Prothorax with minute lateral tubercle at beginning of posterior third; single line of minute punctures near posterior margin. Elytra with apices transversely truncate, external angle projecting in acute spine. Punctation moderately scattered on basal ¾, obsolete on apical ¼. Fifth urotergite and urosternite subtruncate at apex. Metatarsomere I as long as II + III.

Female. Ovipositor projecting slightly beyond elytral apices. Urotergite acute at apex; urosternite semicircularly emarginate.

Measurements (mm), male/female. Total length, 6.2/6.3; prothorax length, 1.2/1.3; prothorax width, 1.5/1.5; elytral length, 4.3/4.4; humeral width, 1.8/1.8.

Etymology. Latin, gilvus, pale yellow plus linea, line.

Type material. Holotype male, PANAMA, Panama: Cerro Jefe (9º 12’ N, 79º 21’ W), 2.V.1987, Stockwell col. (USNM). Paratype female, PANAMA, Panama: El Llano-Carti Rd. (19 km N El Llano), 2.V.1975, M. L. Siri col. (MNRJ).

Comments. The pale-yellow pubescence that covers the sides of the pronotum and elytra allows easy identification of S. gilvolineata sp. nov.
