Distribution. China (Beijing, Gansu, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan), Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mongolia, Russia (East Siberia, Far East).

Remarks. C. (s. str.) arida is characterized by the following character states: pronotum entirely black and sparsely punctured at each side; median lobe covered with dense setae on the ventral side at apical one-sixth (Fig. 6 F).

According to Medvedev (1961), the dorsal color patterns of C. (s. str.) arida are variable. Three patterns occur in China. The first pattern has a large humeral spot and a transverse band at apical two-fifths of each elytron (Fig. 13 B); the second pattern has a much smaller humeral spot and a reduced band at apical two-fifths of each elytron (Fig. 13 A); the third pattern has only a humeral spot without transverse band (Fig. 13 C).

Gressitt & Kimoto (1961) and Tan et al. (1980) recorded C. (s. str.) laeviuscula from the north of China. After examination of type material from ZMHB and all specimens in IZ-CAS, we found that specimens identified as C. (s. str.) laeviuscula by the authors above-mentioned to be C. (s. str.) arida based on the median lobe morphology.
