Description

Oedematopus genus group

The Oedematopus genus group appears to be a monophyletic clade within the Hydrophorinae, but it is still premature to establish a new tribe. The group can be separated by the following combination of characters: arista dorsal; vertical setae absent; palpus narrow and pointed apically; mesonotum with silvery white pruinosity; acrostichal setae absent; 6 dorsocentrals; 2 scutellars; crossvein dm-cu parallel or at acute angle to posterior wing margin; fore tarsomeres in males sometimes modified (MSSC); hind coxa without strong lateral seta; mid and hind femora without preapical seta; pulvilli absent; usually two pairs of epandrial lobes; surstylus divided into dorsal and ventral lobe; postgonite present.

Included genera:

Oedematopus Van Duzee, 1929 Oedematopiella gen. nov.
