Stultutragus nigricornis Fisher 1947, new status
Description
Stultutragus nigricornis (Fisher, 1947), new status
(Figs 5–7)
Ommata (Eclipta) poecila var. nigricornis Fisher, 1947: 51.
Differential diagnosis. Stultutragus nigricornis (Figs 5–7) differs from S. fenestratus: pronotum with two small black maculae (sometimes fused) or without maculae; elytral yellowish areas not involved by the dark areas. In S. fenestratus the pronotum has a single large black macula, and the elytral yellowish areas are involved by the dark areas. See differential diagnosis on S. poecilus.
Integument orange. The following black: head; scape, pedicel, antennomeres III–IV; antennomere V, except extreme basal; apical three fourths of antennomeres VI–XI; two small, rounded black macula on pronotum, placed just after middle; scutellum; a large sub-triangular humeral band, that does not reach the suture; a large band about middle of elytra, from suture to the lateral margin, distinctly projected towards scutellum along suture; all apical forth of elytra; metepisternae; sub-triangular area (as a right triangle) on lateral of metasternum, starting before middle and fused in the area of metasternal suture (this area larger in females); urosternite III in males; outer lateral surface of the projection of urosternite V in males; longitudinal band on dorsal surface of the club of profemurs; apical two thirds of the club of meso- and metafemurs; dorsal surface of protibiae; meso- and metatibiae; tarsi. Urosternites I–III brownish in females; urosternites IV–V dark brown in females.
Color variation. Area between lower ocular lobes yellowish; labrum brownish; antennomere V wholly black; black maculae on pronotum fused or absent; scutellum wholly or partially orange; basal black area of the elytra reaches the suture; elytral black middle band slightly or not projected towards scutellum; middle and apical elytral black areas fused; urosternites III–V wholly black in males; urosternite IV laterally black in males.
Male (Fig. 5). Rostrum moderately long (slightly longer than half width of a lower ocular lobe). Distance between lower ocular lobes equal to 0.05 times the width of a lobe; distance between upper ocular lobes equal to twice the width of a lobe. Antennal length equal to 1.2 times the elytral length.
Pronotum coarsely, anastomosedly punctate; pilosity moderately long (mainly laterally), sparse; anterior margin preceded by narrow furrow. Lateral projections of the urosternite V, wide and elevated. Apex of metafemurs almost reaches the apex of the elytra. Metatarsomere I (Fig. 6) distinctly longer than II–III together.
Female (Fig. 7). Distance between lower ocular lobes equal to 0.8 times the width of a lobe; distance between upper ocular lobes equal to twice the width of a lobe. Antennal length equal to the elytral length.
Variation. Male: antennal length from 1.1 to 1.2 times the elytral length. Female: distance between lower ocular from 0.7 to 0.8 times the width of a lobe.
Dimensions in mm (male/female). Total length, 7.5–8.5/8.3–9.8; prothorax: length, 1.7–1.9/1.8–2,0; anterior width, 1.2–1.3/1.3–1.5; posterior width, 1.2–1.4/1.3–1.6; humeral width, 1.6–1.7/1.6–1.9; elytral length, 5.1–5.7/ 5.5/6.2.
