Ctenus catherine sp. nov.

Type material. Holotype: male from Hellshire Hills, Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica, 300–500m, dry forest in limestone karst, 17o 52’N, 76o 58’W, II–III.1997, B. Wilson col., CAS.

Additional material examined. None.

Etymology. The species epithet is a toponym in apposition.

Diagnosis. Males of Ctenus catherine (Figs 3A–B) resemble those of C. serratipes (Polotow & Brescovit 2012: figs 4A–B) by the absence of tegular apophysis and prominent laminar basal projection of embolus, but can be distinguished by the large median apophysis and retrolateral tibial apophysis with large base and truncated laminar apex.

Description. Male (holotype). Colouration: Carapace orange, thoracic groove reddish brown; legs orange dorsally and ventral faces yellow; chelicerae reddish brown; endites orange, lighter at tips; labium reddish brown; sternum orange; abdomen gray. Total length 17.90. Carapace 9.80 long, 7.70 wide. Clypeus 0.50 high. Eye diameters: AME 0.35, ALE 0.30, PME 0.30, PLE 0.32. Chelicerae with 3 promarginal teeth, median largest; 4 retromarginal subequal teeth and one basal small teeth; without intermarginal denticles. Leg measurements: I: femur 11.80/ patella 4.90/ tibia 12.70/ metatarsus 11.90/ tarsus 4.00/ total 45.30; II: 11.80/ 4.90/ 11.80/ 11.10/ 3.60/ 43.20; III: 10.20/ 4.10/ 9.70/ 10.10/ 3.30/ 37.40; IV: 12.50/ 4.20/ 12.30/ 16.60/ 4.40/ 50.00. Leg formula 4123. Leg spination: tibia I and II v2-2 -2-2-2, r1-1-0, p1-1-0, III and IV v2-2 -2, r1-1-0, p1-1-0; metatarsus I, II v2-2 -2, r1-1- 0, p-1-1-0, III v2-2 -2, r1-1-1, p1-1-1, IV v1-1 -1-1-1-2, r1-1-1-1, p1-1-1-1; metatarsus IV unmodified. Palp (Figs 3A–B): cymbium longer than tibia; retrolateral tibial apophysis subapical, with large base and laminar apex; ventral apophysis short; cymbium elongated, with short and truncated retrolateral projection; subtegulum large prolaterally; locking lobes visible in ventral view; tegulum not projected; laminar embolus with large laminar basal projection and hyaline tip; median apophysis cup-shaped bimarginated and large; conductor hyaline, laminar, Cshaped in retrolateral view.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Known only from Jamaica (Fig. 4).
