Visiana vinosa (Warren)

Type material. British New Guinea (Papua New Guinea). Holotype male, Upper Mambaré River, Biagi, 1515 m, [ASM], iv.1906 (BMNH, examined).

Description. Labial palpi dark brown, with ochreous scales at the apex. Legs brown, with distinct rings of lighter scales. Wing expanse 36 mm (n = 1). Forewings above pale ochreous to brown, with pinkish-brown scales, with median band edged with brown scales, pale in the middle, with a thick, medial projecting tooth outwards, without a discal dot, underneath pale reddish-ochreous, with indistinct, pale median band, with medial projection outwards, with a very small, indistinct discal dot. Hind wings above coloured as forewings, with alternative, wavy pinkish-brown and pale ochreous lines in the basal half, with median line forming a small, sharp, median tooth outwards, underneath coloured and patterned similar to forewings, but paler (Figs 5, 9). Male genitalia (Figs 18, 19). Uncus medium-sized, rather narrow at base, tapering towards the apex; tegumen short, with not prominent shoulders at base of uncus, with medium-sized, almost straight lateral arms directed towards the base of juxta; valvae rather narrow, with costa relatively narrow, sclerotised, with medium-sized, distally narrowly rounded, curved projecting apical process and with medium-sized basal projection; saccus medium-sized, elongate, triangular shaped; juxta with relatively small, apically rounded lateral papillae; aedeagus slightly curved, weakly sclerotised apically, with anellus covered with spines, without cornuti but with a large patch of scobination in vesica. Female unknown.

Habitat. Forest, at the altitude 1515 m.

Distribution. Papua New Guinea (Upper Mambaré River).

Remarks. The species is known only by the holotype. The series of specimens mentioned by Prout (1939) does not belong to this species.
