Timia

Description

Key to the species of genus Timia with microtrichose black scutellum

1. Anepisternum sparsely microtrichose over its whole surface. Face yellow, with black vertical bands ventral of antennae; antenna and antennal groove black. Posteroapical extension of cell bcu 1.6 times as long as transverse section of vein Cu2. Scutum microtrichose, with rows of shining spots around setae. Scutellum convex dorsally, entirely microtrichose, with 4 scutellar setae (Fig. 1). Genital structures as on Fig. 2 a.................... Timia (Empyelocera) planiceps Hendel, 1910

- Anepisternum entirely shining, without microtrichosity; upper part of anepisternum sometimes with some short black hairs. Other characters various............................................................................... 2

2. Wing with brownish cell sc and with faint brown apical spot. Scutellum convex dorsally, entirely microtrichose, with 4 scutellar setae (Fig. 3). Posteroapical extension of cell bcu 0.6 times as long as transverse section of vein Cu2. Scutum microtrichose, with rows of small shining spots around setae. Genital structures—Fig. 2b.... Timia (Empyelocera) anomala (Becker, 1907)

- Wing entirely transparent, sometimes with yellowish tint, without spots. Scutellum flattened dorsally, microtrichose only dorsally. Other characters various............................................................................ 3

3. Posteroapical extension of cell bcu short, 0.8 times as long as transverse section of vein Cu2. Face yellow, with black vertical bands below antenna; antenna and antennal groove black. Scutum microtrichose, with rows of confluent shining spots around setae. 4 scutellar setae (Fig. 4). Genital structures—Fig. 2c.............. Timia (Empyelocera) altaica Galinskaya sp. nov.

- Posteroapical extension of cell bcu long, more than 2 times as long as transverse section of vein Cu2. Other characters various..................................................................................................... 4

4. Frons and pleura long setose (longest setae 0.6–0.8 times as long as antenna). The orbit of the frons with whitish microtrichose triangular spot at the anterior margin. Scutum microtrichose, with rows of confluent shining spots around setae and with thin longitudinal shining stripes. Posteroapical extension of cell bcu 4.2 times as long as transverse section of vein Cu2. 4 scutellar setae. (Fig. 5). Genital structures— Fig. 2 d......................... Timia (Empyelocera) mokhnata Galinskaya sp. nov.

- Frons and pleura short setose (about 0.2 times as long as antenna). The orbit of the frons without whitish microtrichose triangular spot at the anterior margin. Scutum microtrichose, with rows of confluent shining spots around setae and with thin longitudinal shining stripes. Posteroapical extension of cell bcu 2.2 times as long as transverse section of vein Cu2. 4–8 scutellar setae. (Fig. 6). Genital structures— Fig. 2 e................................. Timia (Empyelocera) nigrimana (Loew, 1866)
