Description

31. Stigmella tityrella (Stainton, 1854) (new to the Crimea)

(Figs 46, 47)

Host-plant. Fagus sylvatica L. in the Crimea.

Type of distribution (chorological group). Euro-Submediterranean; the species occurs from Spain and Ireland to Sweden, Greece and the western Caucasus.

Material examined. CRIMEA: Yalta, Mountain Forest Reserve, empty leaf-mines on Fagus sylvatica L., fieldwork card no. 5040, 19.vii.2011, leg. A. Diškus & A. Navickaitė; 23 km S Simferopol, Pereval'ne, empty leafmines, fieldwork card no. 5040, 21.vii.2011, A. Diškus & A. Navickaitė.

Remarks. The species is not rare in the Crimea: limited in distribution (predominantly occurs at higher elevations and in shady forests), abundant.
