Description
Olenellus sp. aff. clarki (Resser, 1928)
Fig. 3.2, 3.5
Olenellus clarki Lieberman, 1999, p. 21, figs. 3.2, 3.5; see for complete synonymy.
Material examined. KUMIP 355556 and PWNHC-2013.23.3.
Discussion. Despite being incompletely preserved specimens, it is possible to identify similarities between these two cephala and O. clarki. These include the presence of a plectrum and preglabellar field, narrow cephalic border, anteriorly divergent lateral margins of L2, a prominent furrow on the ocular lobe, and prominently flattened extraocular area. Olenellus clarki is a biostratigraphically long ranging species in the Great Basin (Webster 2011a) and thus it might not be surprising to find it or something very similar in the northwestern part of Laurentia.
Occurrence. Olenellus zone or Waucoban Series, Dyeran stage, sensu Webster (2011a, b) and Webster et al. (2011), early Cambrian, Sekwi Formation, Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories, Canada, Section 4, 430– 720m above the base of section.
