Description

Mniotype adusta sommeri (Lefebvre, 1836)

Hadena sommeri Lefebvre, 1836, Annales de la Société Entomologique de France 5: 391, pl. 10, fig. 1 (Type locality: Greenland).

Synonymy: Hadena groenlandica Zetterstedt, [1839] (praeocc.) (Type locality: Greenland); Hadena picticollis Zetterstedt, [1839] (Type locality: Greenland); Hadena islandiae Milliére, 1874 (Type locality: Iceland).

Material examined: 2 males, 1 female, Ins. Island [Iceland] / Coll. Erschov (Coll. ZISP); 1 female, ♀ Grönl. [Greenland] / Coll. Gr. Prince Nikolai Mikhailovich (Coll. ZISP); 1 male, ♂ Grönl. [Greenland] / 289/ Coll. Gr. Prince Nikolai Mikhailovich (Coll. ZISP).

Diagnosis. Wingspan 32–38 mm. Externally (Figs 21, 22) the subspecies differs clearly from M. adusta adusta by its smaller size, dark brown or blackish ground colour of forewings and contrasting colouration with pale and well-defined all elements of pattern. The genitalia are very close to those of M. adusta adusta, but in the males (Figs 63, 64): uncus somewhat longer; juxta much broader; and ampulla somewhat shorter; in the female genitalia (Fig. 103): ostium bursae somewhat broader; ductus bursae more curved than in M. adusta adusta; and signum very small.

Distribution. North Atlantic islands. Faroe Islands (Fibiger et al. 2010), Iceland, Greenland.
