Pythochandra singaporensis Baker

Description

Pythochandra singaporensis (Baker), stat. n., comb. n.

(Figs 1 E, 6A–H)

Pythamus melichari var. singaporensis Baker, 1923: 368; pl. 2, fig. 14.

Body length: male 6.0 mm; female: 6.8 mm. Vertex (Figs 1 E, 6A, B) with a large yellow spot next to eye and pronotum dark brown with lateral areas yellow. Forewing (Fig. 1 E) with clavus, adjacent area of main longitudinal veins and patch adjacent apex of clavus, dark brown.

Male pygofer process (Fig. 6 F) relatively straight with a few recurved teeth sub-apically. Aedeagus (Fig. 6 D, E, G) with ventral keel arising near base with lower margin concave, moderately broad in lateral view, thereafter shaft dorsoventrally flattened lamellate with a short subapical process on each side and a more basad medial process.

Material examined. Lectotype (here designated, Fig. 1 E): “Island of Penang, Baker ”; 1♀ paralectotype: “ Singapore, Baker ” (NMNH). 1 , Malay Peninsular, Pahang, 22-26.xii.1958, T.C. Maa (BPBM).

Distribution. Malay Peninsular (Pahang, Singapore and Penang Island).

Remarks. This species was originally described from an unknown number of specimens from “ Singapore, Panang’. It can be distinguished from other species of the genus by the large yellow spot next to the eye on the vertex and distinctive shape of the aedeagus (see above).
