Leadership Profile Standard Adopted by Coaches of Football Base Categories

Description

This research aimed to identify the leadership profile of soccer coaches in the youth teams and to verify the occurrence of a standard of leadership style among coaches. For data collection, the Multidimensional Sports Leadership Scale (EMLD) was used. It was attended by 12 coaches from the youth categories of Brazilian soccer teams, with an average age of 37.66+ 8.17, via Google Drive. The data have been analysed using the SPSS software, version 25.0. The Optimal Leadership Profile Index - IPOL was applied, and 8 technicians with a moderate profile (average 6.0 + 1.5) were identified. Although the average found is moderate, it is worth mentioning that 4 of them (33.3% of the sample) had an excellent leadership profile, marked by the transformational dimension with higher indices in 3 subscales (inspiration 4.6 + 0.2), (instruction 4.6 + 0.4) and (individualization 4.6 + 0.6). However, the results showed that the coaches did not reach the average indexes in 3 subscales, “Support”, Negative Feedback and Active Management, which indicates an autocratic tendency of conduct within the training. Finally, it can be considered, based on the results of the dimensions evaluated in this research, that the coaches look themselves, in most cases, with a democratic profile, emphasizing the methodological and pedagogical processes of instruction, seeking, and put in a balance the needs and expectations of your athletes. In contrast to this study, further research will be necessary to indicate an optimal leadership profile and its effectiveness in football.
