Redescription. Male: Length 28 mm. Form large; integument reddish brown, head, antennae, prosternal process, mesosternum, and coxae darker, anterior and posterior margins of pronotum, and scutellum black, elytra glabrous, metallic greenish with reddish reflection; pubescence sparse, long, erect near middle of venter, and short, pale and dense at sides of meso-metasternum and abdomen. Head with palpi short, apical segment of labial and maxillary pair subtruncate, impressed dorsally; antennae longer than apices of elytra, scape with dorsum deeply impressed over basal 2/3, sides of impression carinate, segments from 4th densely clothed with very short, appressed, pale pubescence, 3rd segment longer than 1st, and 4th shorter than 3rd and longer than 1st. Pronotum with small tubercles on each side at middle, lateral margins of apical ½ rounded; disc with two, very vague, glabrous calluses near middle and two vague, oblique calluses laterally on each side behind middle, sides of apical 2/3 densely, confluently punctate, at middle from apex to base with urceolate sparsely, very finely, shallowly punctate area, apical and basal margin impressed at middle; prosternum narrow, each side above coxae with transverse, reddish, deeply punctate area; proepisternum densely punctate. Elytra about 2.5 times longer than broad; disc glabrous (punctures extremely small), sparsely pubescent near apices; apices obliquely, sinuately truncate, exterior angles dentate. Legs with hind femora not attaining apex of elytra. Abdomen with segments 1–4 narrowly darker at apices; 5th sternite subtruncate at apex, shallowly emarginate medially.

Female: Not available for study.

Distribution. Colombia, Ecuador.

Material examined. ECUADOR: Esmeraldas, 10 km W Lita, 800 m, 15 Feb 2002, D. Curoe (1 male, BKEC).

Note. Callistochroma viridipennis can easily be recognized by the reddish coloration of the integument and metallic greenish-red elytra. The above example from Ecuador is a male, while the original material described by Latreille appears to be a female specimen. This male from Ecuador fits the description provided by Latreille in form and color, and its appearance is nearly identical to the female holotype from Quindiu, Colombia (Bezark, 2014, id: 6144). The holotype female and this male from Ecuador have obliquely truncate elytral apices, more reddish femora, thoracic disc without obvious macula (or vitta), and the disc of elytra that are glabrous, “ with only almost imperceptible punctures ” as described by Latreille, 1811:163. The segments of the male antennae examined had the 3rd segment longer than the 1st, and the 4th segment shorter than the 3rd and longer than the 1st. The remainder of the antennae from the 5th segment are missing in the above example; however, based on the length of 3rd and 4th segments, the entire length of antennae, if intact, are likely to be much longer than the body.
