Chinaocerus kangdingensis Zhang, sp. nov.

Description

Chinaocerus kangdingensis Zhang & Li sp. nov.

(Figs 3–4, Figs 7–8, Figs 21–31)

Male. Vertex rusty yellow, with pair of black spots close to eyes (Fig. 3). Frons orange yellow (Fig. 7). Ocelli yellow. Eyes yellowish brown. Antennae with pedicel subglobose and black. Pronotum (Fig. 3) with anterior margin with irregular black maculation, posterior and lateral margins grayish white. Scutellum yellowish brown, basal triangules with a pair of black angular markings, two black spots beside median transverse notch. Forewings with base light grayish and gradually darkening to brown towards apex.

Male genitalia. Pygofer elongate, apical third of ventral margin with 23-25 denticles. Anal collar process bears single curved and acute hook. Apophysis of style (Fig. 25) with outer margin bearing approximately 15–17 lateral setae. Aedeagus (Figs 26, 27) with shaft sinuate, distad curved like a mastoid process, near apex of ventral margin with one mastoid process beside gonopore; dorsal cavity short and expanded to long strip at base.

Female. Similar in coloration and body proportions to male but color yellowish to pale yellowish and scutellum without central spots (Figs 4, 8).

Female genitalia. Pygofer (Fig. 30) narrow elongate, posterior margin of sternite VII convexly rounded with a small median emargination. Second valvulae (Fig. 31) regularly broadened in lateral view, bearing approximately 15 teeth along dorsal margin.

Measurements (mm). Male: body length 5.3–5.5, face length 1.5, width 1.8; distance between ocelli 0.5; distance from ocellus to eyes 0.3; medial length of pronotum 0.6, width 1.5; scutellum length 0.9, width 1.1.Female: body length 5.8–6.2, face length 1.6, width 1.9; distance between ocelli 0.6; distance from ocellus to eyes 0.3; medial length of pronotum 0.7, width 1.6; scutellum length 0.9, width 1.1.

Material examined. Holotype: male, China, Sichuan Province, Kangding County (30°27′N, 1031°16′E), 6.x.2005, Fuming Shi. Paratypes: 2 males, 3 females, same date as holotype.

Host plant. Unidentified shrubs.

Distribution. China: Guizhou, Sichuan.

Remarks. This new species differs from the other species of Idiocerini by the aedeagus with shaft sinuate and with a pair of toothlike processes beside the gonopore, in addition to a pair of lamellate processes near the base.

Etymology. The species is named for its locality Kangding County in Sichuan province.
