Description
Cladiopsocus deliciasensis n. sp. Male
(Figs 8–14)
Diagnosis. Belonging in species group “2”, subgroup 3, in the classification of Eertmoed (1986). It differs from C.
domesticus and C. distinctus by the shape of the phallosome, paraprocts and epiproct. It differs from the other species of subgroup 3 by having the paraproctal prong with slender basal tooth (Fig. 12); epiproct with posterior projection, with a strongly sclerotized tooth on each postero-lateral corner (Fig. 11).
Color. Head (Fig. 10) brown, vertex darker; postclypeus pale brown, anteclypeus and labrum creamy. Compound eyes dark brown, ocelli hyaline. Antennae pale brown, flagellomeres with clear distal ends; maxillary palps pale brown. Meso- and metanotum pale brown, thoracic pleura cream, legs with coxae and trochanters cream, femora, tibiae and tarsi of front and middle legs pale brown, hind femora cream, tibiae and tarsi pale brown. Forewing membrane hyaline, with slightly smoked spots; pterostigma with smoked spot posteriorly; wing margin with pale brown spots from M1 to Cu1b (Fig. 8); veins pale brown, ending in a pale brown spot at wing margin. Hindwing hyaline with a smoked spot at vein ends, and three spots at wing margin between M-Cu (Fig. 9). Abdomen cream, clunium and hypandrium smoked-pale brown; epiproct and paraprocts cream, epiproct with two dark brown tubercles, near posterior border; paraproctal prong dark brown.
Morphology. As in diagnosis plus the following: Head vertex slightly concave in the middle (Fig. 10); compound eyes large, D is 52% the length of the head in front view, almost as wide as the interocular distance; with interommatidial setae. Forewings (Fig. 8); membrane of pterostigma with setae. Hypandrium (Fig. 13) broad, with medium sized setae in the middle and lateral macrosetae; shield-shaped, distally rounded. Epiproct trapeziform, with one short triangular tubercle on each postero-lateral corner; setae as illustrated (Fig. 11). Paraprocts (Fig. 12) without mesal tubercle, with medium sized setae and macrosetae; mesal prong stout, strongly sclerotized, bent and distally acuminate, with basal slender tooth on inner border; sensory fields with 16 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Phallosome slightly sclerotized, slightly convex anteriorly, external parameres rounded, membranous, bearing pores; endophallic lobes broadly triangular, distally rounded, close to each other along the midline; aedeagal arch absent (Fig. 14).
