Aleiodes (Athacryvac) fuscatus Braet and van Acherberg 2011, stat. nov.

Description

Aleiodes (Athacryvac) fuscatus (Braet and van Acherberg 2011) stat. nov.

(Fig. 6–8, 71, 77)

Athacryvac fuscatus Braet and van Achterberg 2011: 289

Diagnosis. Occipital carina complete and evenly rounded dorsally, ventrally not reaching hypostomal carina; head and mesosoma mostly dark brown; metasomal terga 1–3 dark brown basally and pale yellowish apically; frequently with at least first and second flagellomeres fused; antenna long, 2.5 times longer than fore wing; face transversely rugose; fore wing second submarginal cell square; fore wing vein 1-CU1 about 2 times longer than vein cu-a; hind wing vein RS virtually straight.

Additional characters. Body length 3.8–4.9 mm, fore wing length 2.9–4.3 mm; antenna with 46–52 antennomeres, 2.0–2.5 times longer than fore wing; first two or three flagellomeres fused, division of segments faintly indicated; POL:OD:OOL = 3:3:6 (ocell-ocular distance 2.0–2.3 times as long as diameter of lateral ocellus); malar space short, 1.1–1.3 times longer than basal width of mandibles and about 0.3 times eye height in frontal view; eyes 2.8–3.0 times longer than temple in dorsal view; antescutal depression distinct, pronotal collar granular with several carina radiating from antescutal depression; scutellar sulcus with 1 mid-longitudinal carina, sometimes with one additional lateral pair; ventral midline of mesopleuron set within crenulate sulcus; fore wing veins 1- CU1:2-CU1:cu-a = 17:29:6 (vein 1-CU1 about 0.3–0.6 times as long as vein 2-CU1 and 2.0–3.0 times vein cu-a); petiole about 2 times wider apically than basally, length of first tergum 2.1–2.4 times its apical width; base of petiole without lamelliform lateral flanges; apex of ovipositor sheaths with modified pointed “bristle”.

Description of male. Very similar to female. Body length 3.9–4.6 mm; eyes slightly larger, malar space 0.25 times eye height in frontal view and eyes 3.5 times longer than temples in dorsal view; POL:OD:OOL = 3:3:4, ocell-ocular distance 1.3–1.5 times as long as diameter of lateral ocellus; petiole slightly shorter, length 1.8–1.9 times longer than apical width; scutellar sulcus with irregular carina.

Distribution. Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, and Panama.

Discussion. Aleiodes fuscatus has the slenderest petiole as compared to other species in this subgenus. It is similar to A. achterbergi sp. nov. in the shape of second submarginal cell of fore wing, bicolored metasomal terga 2 and 3, occipital carina complete dorsally but ventrally not meeting hypostomal carina, and relatively long fore wing vein 1-CU1. The antenna of specimens from Brazil and Costa Rica has the first two or three flagellomeres fused in variable degrees, but never completely separated.
