Description

Heterospilus granulosus sp. n.

(Figs 23–26)

Female. Body length: 3.1 mm.

Colour: head yellow with stematicum black, palpi yellow, flagellum dark brown or black, scape dark brown or black; lobes of mesoscutum and mesopleuron light brown, but presenting black marks; propodeum dark brown; terga I and II yellow, terga III–V with black stripe at the base, terga VI–VII yellow; wing veins including stigma dark brown; legs yellow with robust posterior femur.

Head: vertex and frons smooth, face granulose; malar space greater than ¼ eye height; temple broad, width greater than ½ eye width; ocell-ocular distance 2.5 times greater than diameter of lateral ocellus;

Mesosoma: mesopleuron granulose, precoxal sulcus smooth, shorter than width of mesopleuron; mesoscutum lobes granulose and hairy just along notauli; notauli scrobiculate meeting before prescutellar furrow in triangular costate area; prescutellar furrow with three cross carinae; scutellum smooth; propodeum with basal median areas distinct and margined, basal median areas granulose, basal median carina present, areolar margin distinct, areolar area areolate-rugose, lateral areas smooth anteriorly and rugose posteriorly, mesosternum granulose. Fore wing: vein r shorter than vein 3 RSa, vein 1cu-a beyond vein 1M, stigma width equal to length of vein r. Hind wing: vein SC+R present, length of vein M+CU shorter than vein 1M.

Metasoma: first tergum longitudinally costate, apical width equal to length; second tergum costate, apical width 2.5–3 times length; third tergum smooth; terga II+III with anterior and posterior transverse grooves present and nearly straight; terga IV–VII smooth; ovipositor greater than length of metasoma.

Material examined. Holotype (DCBU 31296); female, Brazil, SP, São Luiz do Paraitinga, Núcleo Santa Virgínia 23o19’27,1’’S 45o5’38,4’’W, semidecidous mesophilic forest, 22.I.2010, Malaise traps; N.W. Perioto col.

Comments. This species is distinguished by your color patterns, the granulose face and mesosternum, the ovipositor longer than length of metasoma and the robust femur.

Etymology. The name of this species refers to granular sculpturing presenting at characteristic parts of the body.
