Cantharis (Cantharis) melaspoides Wittmer 1971

Description

Cantharis (Cantharis) melaspoides Wittmer, 1971

Distribution in Iran. East Azarbaijan: Maragheh, 37°23'N 46°24'E (Samin et al. 2015).

Distribution outside Iran. Caucasus, Turkey (Kerimova & Huseynova 2014), Israel (Švihla 1999; Koçak & Kemal 2015), Jordan, Lebanon, Syria (Švihla 1999; Kazantsev & Brancucci 2007; Samin et al. 2015).

Remarks. All record from Turkey, Caucasus and Iran are potentially erroneous and require validation because C. melaspoides Wittmer is identical, in external appearance, to both C. livida Linnaeus and C. melaspis (Chevrolat). Recognition of this species is only possible by dissection and aedeagus examination.
