Wahabia Jaschhof

Description

Genus Wahabia Jaschhof gen. nov.

Type species, mantici sp. nov., here designated.

Non-genitalic characters suggest that Wahabia mantici is similar to Johnsonomyia spp., but the unusually complex male genitalia of this diallactiine call for classifying it in a genus of its own.

Diagnosis. A peculiarity of Wahabia is that the parameres and the ejaculatory apodeme together form a single complex structure, which gives rise to two pairs of processes (Fig. 20B). The gonocoxae are also equipped with processes (Fig. 20A), which is a unique condition in Diallactiini. Females of Wahabia are unknown.

Etymology. This genus is named to honor Rodzay Abdul Wahab, University of Brunei, Darussalam, for his dedicated support of studies into the biodiversity of his country, including the diallactiine study presented here. Gender of this name is feminine.
