Description

Glaphyrosoma hectorcentenoi n. sp.

Holotype. Ƌ labeled “ GUATEMALA, Quiché, Ald. Chixiquin road río Chixoy-Chicamán, 15 21.28, 90 42.80, 1 II 1996, K. Villatoro ” (UVGC).

Description. Male (holotype). Body medium in size for the genus, coloration relatively uniform brown; thoracic and abdominal tergites all tibiae dark brown; head and femora lighter brown than tergites; pleura and sternites yellowish brown (Figs. 29–30). Head: ovoid; rostrum wide, with a pair of rounded and oblique margins in between the antennal basins; vertex fastigium delimited by two rounded margins, moderately divergent towards the side and frontally rounded, being two times as wide as antennal scape; ocelli equidistant, rounded, being the frontal one larger and more prominent (Fig. 31). Thorax: thoracic and abdominal tergites similar; pronotum tubular, without humeral sinus, lateral lobules rectangular with anterior and posterior margins straight (Fig. 32); meso- and metanotum similar to pronotum but shorter and with latero inferior margins rounded (Fig. 33). Legs: anterior and medial legs slender, third pair with femora well developed for jumping; anterior tibiae with tympani well developed in both sides, oval and medium in size; tibial armament d2a, vi3, ve3, v2 a / 2da, vi2, ve2, vsa2, va2 / d10e, d 9i, d2sa 6a. Abdomen: tubular; tergites with posterior margins rounded; eighth tergite with posteromedial margin without modification and similar to first seven tergites; ninth tergite moderately pronounced and with posteromedial margin smoothly undulated; tenth tergite narrow and with a pair of thick hooks curved upwards above medial portion of tergite; cerci thin and long, almost twice as long as paraproctum (Fig. 34–35). Epiproctum ovoid, apex rounded and with a medial depression from the base to close to apex in dorsal view; paraprocta constant in thickness from base to apex and curving upwards from the middle of its length into a hook, ending in a moderately sharp margin (Figs. 36–37); subgenital plate rectangular, wider than long, narrowing slightly towards apex, distally with a pair of conical styles, shallow notch almost straight located between styli (Fig. 36).

Female: Unknown.

Measurements (in mm.). Holotype: LB: 16.5. Pr: 4. HF: 13.5. HT: 14.

Etymology. Named in honor of Mr. Hector Centeno who dedicated his life to conservation and education.

Comparison. Coloration similar to G. anderi; male terminalia unique; posterior margin of tenth tergite has similar structure to G. karnyi and paraprocta similar to G. franciscoasturiasi except thinner, do not curve abruptly and do not have the medial internal spine.
