Anthelephila kubani Kejval 2017, sp. nov.

Description

Anthelephila kubani sp. nov.

Figs 80–84

Description. Male (holotype). Body length 5.2 mm. Head and pronotum reddish; elytra brownish black, with reddish base and very slight greenish reflection; legs and antennae reddish to brown, most antennomeres darker brown with paler bases.

Head 1.2 times as long as wide, nearly smoothly merging with longer neck; tempora strongly narrowing posteriad, posterior angles absent. Eyes medium-sized, rather convex. Dorsal surface moderately glossy, distinctly punctate and partly distinctly corrugated (especially medially to eyes); punctures distinctly separated. Setation subdecumbent; numerous long, tactile setae. Antennae moderately enlarged in terminal third; antennomere X 1.5 times, XI 2.3 times as long as wide.

Pronotum 1.5 times as long as wide, distinctly narrower than head including eyes, nearly evenly rounded anteriorly, strongly narrowed and moderately impressed (constricted) postero-laterally in dorsal view; pronotal disc with shallow median longitudinal impression, largely evenly convex, somewhat flattened posteriorly in lateral view. Surface glossy; disc with coarser punctures densely arranged and forming paired longitudinal strips dorsoleterally in posterior half, with indication of transverse wrinkles shortly before base; antero-lateral sides minutely and sparsely punctate, nearly impunctate near procoxal cavities; postero-lateral impressions and adjacent dorsolateral areas rather coarsely, longitudinally wrinkled. Setation as on head.

Both mesosternum and metasternum simple.

Elytra 1.8 times as long as wide, longitudinally oval, conjointly rounded apically; humeri distinct; postscutellar impression absent. Surface glossy, distinctly punctate; punctation double, setiferous punctures rather widely separated. Setation nearly evenly developed, slightly sparser in basal fourth to third, generally longer and more raised than on head, decumbent; numerous tactile setae.

Metathoracic wings fully developed.

Fore legs modified (Fig. 80); profemora with conspicuous, narrow, process with apex simply rounded, bearing short fringe of stiff setae subapically; protibiae widened and with distinct protrusion on inner side distally; metatibiae rather robust and flattened medially in distal half; penultimate tarsomere widened/flattened distally, with terminal tarsomere articulated dorsally near base in all tarsi. Setation normally developed; pro- and mesotibiae with two, metatibiae with single distinct terminal spur.

Abdominal sternum VII deeply emarginate and densely setose medially (Fig. 81). Tergum VII simple, widely rounded apically. Sternite VIII (Fig. 82); paired prongs bifurcate and very complex. Tergite VIII with paired sclerites widely, unevely rounded apically, narrowly connected medially (Fig. 83). Terminal sclerite of segment IX (spiculum) membranous, strongly narrowed and elongate apically. Aedeagus (Fig. 84); apical portion of tegmen 0.6 times as long as basal-piece, trilobed apically.

Female. Externally differing from male as follows: fore legs and abdominal sternum VII simple; tergum VII subtrinagular, rounded apically.

Variation. Body length (♂♀) 5.0– 5.4 mm.

Additional specimens. Laos: 1 ♀, Xieng Khouang prov. Phonsavan env., Ban Phu Nok Kok, ca. 1250 m, secondary forest, 8.viii.2006, M. Geiser lgt. (NHMB); 1 ♀, Phongsaly prov., Phongsaly env., 21°41–2′N 102°06– 8′E, ~ 1500m, 28.v.–20.vi.2003, P. Pacholátko lgt. (ZKDC).

Differential diagnosis. Anthelephila kubani sp. nov. may externally resemble A. ailani sp. nov. by body shape, colouration, and longer profemoral processes in males, but differs somewhat by the smaller size, rather distinct corrugation of the head, the presence of a median longitudinal impression of the pronotal disc, shape of the male protibiae, and all male abdominal characters; morphology of its paired prongs is very complex and quite distinctive.

Etymology. Dedicated to Vítězslav Kubáň (Praha, Czech Republic), well-known specialist in Buprestidae, who collected the holotype and many specimens listed in this paper.

Distribution. Laos.
