Type material. HOLOTYPE male: MEXICO: CHIAPAS, Reserva El Ocote, 9-III-1993, E. Barrera & G. Ortega Leon (UNAM). PARATYPES: MEXICO: VERACRUZ, Atoyac, 14-IV-2000, H. Brailovsky & E. Barrera (UNAM) 1 female; VERACRUZ: Cordoba, Cuauthemoc, 25-III-28-IV-2007 & 17-30-VI-2007, intercepted light trap, L. Delgado (UNAM), 2 females.

Etymology. Named for its small size; from the Latin “ vergrandis ” small.

Discussion. This species is related to A. nigrofasciatus Harris by having the anterior lobe of the pronotum shiny yellowish orange; the clavus and corium are almost entirely black to dark brown; and connexival segments II–V shiny yellow have a group of black spinules resembling an elongate spot. In A. nigrofasciatus the posterior lobe of the pronotum is shiny yellowish orange except for the black semilunar area medially on posterior margin, and the collar is shiny yellowish orange (eventually pale castaneous) (Figs. 6–7). In A. vergrandis sp. nov., the posterior lobe of the pronotum is shiny black to reddish brown with wide yellowish triangular mark lateral to midline, and the collar is shiny reddish brown to dark castaneous (Fig. 10).

Distribution. Known only from Mexico.
