Description of song: Chorthippus parallelus parallelus male calling songs usually consist of one or more synchronized phrases (Fig. 12 B). The calling song durations vary between 2 and 4 s, depending on the number of syllables. A syllable comprises observable numerous pulse groups (double-triple or more) which start with lower amplitude at the beginning of the syllable and continue with higher amplitude in the remaining part of the syllable (except the last pulse). Syllable numbers vary from 10 to 18 in a phrase (Fig. 12 B). The syllable durations lasts for 215–270 ms (Figs. 12 C–D).
