Smetana, 2005: 284 (Protocypus; Type locality: China, Shaanxi, Qing Ling Shan); Schülke & Smetana, 2015: 1100 (Protocypus; Catalog of Palaearctic Region).
Material examined. CHINA: Shaanxi Province: 8 males, 6 females, Ningshan County, Huoditang, 33.43368°N, 108.44747°E, 1538 m, pitfall traps, 20.VIII.2007, coll. H. L. Shi & G. L. Yang (IZ-CAS); 1 female, Ningshan County, Huoditang, 1580 m, 27.VII.1998, coll. Jun Chen (IZ-CAS); 2 males, 3 females, Zhouzhi County, Houzhenzi, Laoxiancheng, 33.79211°N, 107.74421°E, 1860 m, pitfall traps, 14.VIII.2007, coll. H. L. Shi (IZ- CAS).
Measurements. Body length: 18.7–23.1 mm. CL: 0.82; EL: 2.89; ELS: 1.29; EW: 3.83; HL: 3.12; HW: 3.86; PO: 1.51; PL: 3.81; PW: 3.73.
Distribution. Protocypus lupus is at present known from Gansu, Hubei, Shaanxi and Sichuan.
