Description
Hungaroleberis retiferus n. sp.
Figs. 6/1–3
Etymology. From the Latin retiferus, reticulated; with reference to its ornamentation. Holotype. Right valve Eötvös Museum of Natural History, EMNH 2014.211.2.6., fig. 6/1. Paratype. Left valve, Eötvös Museum of Natural History, EMNH 2014.211.2.4., fig. 6/3. Type locality. Somhegy, Bakony Hills, Hungary.
Type level. Bajocian, Humphresianum Zone, Bed 3.
Material. Somhegy, Bajocian: 9 carapaces.
Dimensions. L: 277–312 µm, H: 213–251 µm, L/H=1.24–1.3.
Diagnosis. A species of Hungaroleberis, with a reticulate valve surface. Description. Carapace ovoid in lateral view; rostral incisure weakly-developed; anteroventral margin not extended past the tip of the rostrum; dorsal margin convex and arched with a slight break towards the posterior end; posterior margin rounded without a caudal process; ventral margin rounded; valve surface reticulate; internal features cannot be examined.
Comparison. This species is similar to Hungaroleberis gussevaae (Crasquin-Soleau, 1998) (in Crasquin- Soleau & Baud 1998, pl. 7, figs. 3–4.) from the Permian of Hydra Island in Greece; however, it differs in its general shape, which is less elongated and has reticulate ornamentation on its valve surface.
Remarks. Due to the moderate preservation, the degree of ornamentation is variable. The reticulation is limited mainly to an area near the margins, but presumably the entire valve surface was originally ornamented.
Occurrence. Somhegy, Bakony Hills, Hungary: Bajocian, Middle Jurassic (this study).
