Scatella (Scatella) stagnalis (Fallén, 1813)

Ephydra stagnalis Fallén, 1813: 248. Syntypes, males. Sweden (MZLU).

Scatella buccata Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 801.? France.

Scatella tateyamana Matsumura, 1915: 225. Japan.

Distribution: AF: Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Zaire. AU: French Polynesia, Hawaiian Is. NE: Bermuda, Canada, Greenland, OR: Japan, Taiwan. PA: Afghanistan, Algeria, Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Is., China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Faroe Is., Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, Madeira Is., Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine.

Egyptian localities: It is a very common species, distributed in all Egyptian ecological zones except Gebel Elba. [Hafez (1947) recorded this species on Human excrement from Giza].

Dates of collection: December to May.
