Paraturbanella boadeni Rao & Ganapati 1968

Description

Paraturbanella boadeni Rao & Ganapati, 1968

Records from India. ANDHRA PRADESH: Visakhapatnam (Waltair)— Rao & Ganapati (1968a); ODISHA (Orissa): Gopalpur—Rao (1989); ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS: Rangat, Middle Andaman—Rao (1975, 1980b); GENERAL RECORD: Naidu & Rao (2004).

Habitat. Marine, intertidal; fine and medium sand with detritus, 10–40 cm below surface, near low water level.

Distribution. India (Bay of Bengal).

Remarks. A recent key to species of the genus Paraturbanella has been provided by Dal Zotto et al. (2018). A redescription of the Indian species based on new material is advisable because the arrangement of the anterior adhesive tubes, as reported in the original description and drawings, appears very different from the usual layout, and the description of the male reproductive apparatus is scanty.
