Dialeurotrachelus Takahashi 1942

Description

Genus Dialeurotrachelus Takahashi, 1942

Type species: Dialeurotrachelus cambodiensis Takahashi, 1942: 102, by monotypy.

Diagnosis. Puparium oblong; margin smooth; submargin demarcated from the dorsal disc by a submarginal furrow, except the anterior and posterior ends. Thoracic and caudal tracheal pores invaginated deeply. Longitudinal moulting suture reaching anterior margin; transverse moulting suture reaching submarginal furrow; cephalothoracic and abdominal segments rhachisform; cephalothoracic and abdominal segment sutures prominent. Submedian area of cephalothorax and abdomen with polygonal imbrications. A row of 12 pairs of submarginal setae present; anterior and posterior marginal setae present. Cephalic and the first abdominal setae absent; eighth abdominal and caudal setae present. Thoracic tracheal furrows absent. Caudal tracheal furrow present. Vasiform orifice quadrangular, slightly elevated posteriorly; operculum subcordate, covering half the length of the orifice; lingula tip exposed, setose. Geminate pores prominent, large, somewhat raised from the dorsal cuticle. Ventral submargin faintly demarcated by a submarginal groove; submedian area may be stipulated; thoracic and caudal tracheal folds present; ventral setae present.

Remarks. Superficially, the puparial morphology of Dialeurotrachelus much resembles that of Rhachisphora in having rhachisform cephalothoracic and abdominal segments, but differs from it in having a submarginal furrow demarcating the submargin from the dorsal disc and in the shape of vasiform orifice. However, the dorsal imbrications on the subdorsal area are similar to those observed in puparia of Rhachisphora species. The submarginal lanceolate setae observed in Dialeurotrachelus are similar to those of Rhachisphora, but the large dorsal pores (in Dialeurotrachelus) have not been observed in Rhachisphora. It differs from Aleurotrachelus Quaintance and Baker in lacking a pair of lateral longitudinal rhachises on the submedian area of the thorax and in having a submarginal groove that differentiates the dorsal disc except for the anterior and posterior parts of the body. It also differs from Gadigaleyrodes Dooley and Gillespie, 2013 in being smaller in size, having a submarginal furrow, a shorter extension of the transverse moulting suture and rhachises, and in the shape of vasiform orifice and legs; although, both genera have obvious subdorsal pores, they are much larger in Gadigaleyrodes.
