Megalobrachium soriatum

Description

Megalobrachium soriatum (Say, 1818)

(Figure 3A)

Material examined. Penaeid—5 (1 M, 4 F); size range: 2.25 ≤ CSL ≤ 3.10 mm; average: CSL = 2.49 ± 0.36 mm; CZUFS CRU- 00257.

Stations. Penaeid—1, 3, and 9.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina to Florida, Gulf of Mexico), Mexico, Central America, and Brazil (from Ceará to São Paulo). Eastern Pacific—California, and Panama (Melo 1999).

Ecological notes. Recorded at 54 m (Veloso & Melo 1993), and 171 m (Williams 1984).

Remarks. Species normally associated with the Bryozoa Schizoporella unicornis (Johnston) (Alves et al. 2013). Megalobrachium walteri Rodrigues da Costa can be considered a junior synonym of M. soriatum (Veloso & Melo 1993).
