Ischalia holzschuhi Kazantsev & Telnov 2019, sp. nov.

Description

Ischalia (s. str.) holzschuhi Kazantsev et Telnov, sp. nov.

(Fig. 8)

Material. Holotype ♀ [ICM], NE Laos, Hua Phan prov., Ban Saleui, Phou Pan Mt., ~20˚12′N, 104˚01´E, 1300– 1900 m, 1–31.V.2011, C. Holzschuh leg.

Description. Measurements. Total length: 4.9 mm. Head length: 0.6 mm. Head width: 0.7 mm. Pronotal length: 0.7 mm. Pronotal width: 0.9 mm. Elytral length: 3.9 mm. Elytral width at humeri: 1.6 mm.

Female. Dark brown to black; elytra ochre; pronotum, except at disk, reddish brown; tarsomeres pale brown (Fig. 8).

Head transverse, opaque, posteriorly with a pair of conspicuous dorsal longitudinal ridges beginning at eye midlength and reaching head base, steeply rounded to narrow parallel-sided neck. Eyes rather small, ca. as long as wide, separated by ca. 1.3 times their length as viewed from above, noticeably emarginate at antennal insertions. Clypeus transverse, rectangular; frontoclypeal suture narrow, but distinct. Labrum transverse. Terminal segment of labial and maxillary palps bulbous, strongly securiform. Antennae filiform, reaching basal third of elytra, with antennomere 3 more than twice as long as antennomere 2 and slightly longer than antennomere 4 (Fig. 8).

Pronotum transverse, 1.6 times wider than long, opaque, parallel on lateral margins in basal half and semitriangularly converging anteriorly; anterior angles completely rounded, posterior angles small and acute; disc with narrow median longitudinal carina in basal two thirds; postmedian transverse depressions nearly straight; two pairs of pores located in transverse depressions in posterior third, first near carina, second more than half a distance from carina towards lateral margin. Scutellum insignificantly emarginate distally (Fig. 8).

Elytra semi-glabrous, moderately long, together ca. 2.5 times longer than wide at humeri, parallel-sided, flattened, with lateral costa nearly reaching apex and less strong humeral costa extending to elytral two fifths; dorsal surface densely punctate, punctures relatively large; lateral interstice with four rows of punctures; pubescence very short and decumbent (Fig. 8).

Legs with almost straight femora and inconspicuously widened tarsomeres.

S exual dimorphism. Male is unknown.

Diagnosis. Ischalia holzschuhi sp. nov. is readily distinguishable from I. ancora sp. nov. (see description of this species above) by the presence of a pair of conspicuous dorsal longitudinal ridges in posterior half of head, semi-triangularly converged anterior pronotal margin (in I. ancora sp. nov. the pronotum is not or is only slightly converged in anterior half, not semi-triangular), and uniformly ochre elytra with larger punctuation (Fig. 8). This species also stands out among all congeners due to its predominantly reddish brown pronotum, which is mostly black in other Ischalia with ochre coloured elytra.

Etymology. The new species is named after Mr. Carolus Holzschuh (Villach, Austria) who collected the unique type specimen.
