Head wider near anterior and posterior ends, covered by several black denticles dorsally and ventrally. Dorsum of head reddish brown to blackish on anteocular portion, gray between eyes, grayish to brown on postocular portion (Fig. 4a); venter darker, anteocular portion brown to black, postocular portion gray. Clypeus shining, brown, broad, with anterior margin slightly bluntly projecting in middle (Fig. 4b). Eyes bright, reddish brown. Dorsal interocular groove absent; ventral interocular groove deep, shorter than eyes. Antenna with scattered short setae. Antennomere I dark brown; II yellowish to brown; III–IV brown. Antennomere I wider than others, slightly thicker on apex, more densely covered by setae; II longer than I, slightly thicker at apex; III very thin, curved, long; IV short, cylindrical. Bucculae rounded, brown. Labium yellowish brown, very long, reaching postocular region.
Pronotum yellow to yellowish brown, pruinose, elongated, with a row of small circular pits adjacent to anterior margin (Fig. 4c). Anterior lobe covered by several randomly distributed black denticles; posterior lobe with midline white except near posterior margin, with several circular pits on and laterad to this line, and a deep, small groove on anterior part. Pleural region of thorax brown, with longitudinal pale stripe (Fig. 4d) reaching posterior portion of abdominal segment VII. Pro-, meso- and metasterna dark brown, with several black denticles. Propleuron with 13 circular pits. All acetabula yellowish brown; proacetabulum with 8 pits anterior to cleft and 13 posterior to it; mesoacetabulum with 10 pits anterior to cleft and 12 posterior to it; metacetabulum with 12 pits. Wings yellow with dark brown veins, reaching base of abdominal mediotergite III. Legs brownish, long, thin, with scattered short spine-like setae on femora and tibiae. Coxae and trochanters yellow; tarsi with short setae.
Abdominal mediotergites I–VI shining, dark brown, glabrous; VII–VIII dull, yellowish brown, covered by very a few black denticles. Abdominal laterotergites dark brown, slightly elevated. Abdominal sterna II–VII dark brown; VIII reddish brown. Abdominal sternum VII with a pair of subconical processes with short setae at apex (Figs. 4 e–f). Abdominal segment VIII cylindrical, ventrolaterally constricted, ending dorsally in a robust, short, sharp, spine-like projection (Fig. 4f). Pygophore yellowish brown, rounded.
Material examined. Holotype: brachypterous ♂: Colombia, Quindío, Tebaida; 1017 m. 10.iv.2005, F. Molano col. (UPTC-MHN-ART 0077). Paratypes: 4 brachypterous ♂, 1 macropterous ♂: same data as holotype (UPTC-MHN-ART 0078); 1 brachypterous ♂, Quindío, Alcalá, Finca Los Lagos; 801 m. 9.vii.2005, J. Cobos col. (UPTC-MHN-ART 0079).
Distribution. Known only from Quindío Department, Colombia (Fig. 7).
Etymology. This species is named after the Pre-Colombian culture that existed in what is now Quindío Department.
Diagnosis. Hydrometra quimbaya sp. nov. is very similar to H. tayrona sp. nov. and H. caraiba, described above. For a comparison between these two and other Neotropical Hydrometra, see the Diagnosis section under the latter species.
