Carpophilus compressus Murray

Description

Carpophilus compressus Murray

Carpophilus compressus Murray 1864: 351

A single specimen was studied with a label reading “TYPE”, along with other identifiers allowing this specimen to be matched to the original holotype used by Murray in 1864. Murray also stated he only had one specimen at the time to base the description on. All primary types of Carpophilinae for Murray’s 1864 revision of the family Nitidulidae are deposited in the NHM. Therefore, this specimen can be reliably determined to be the holotype. Labels for the designated specimen are as follows: “Type” “RIO JANEIRO” “compressus” A red label is added with the following text: “ HOLOTYPE / Carpophilus compressus Murray /Det. By/Powell and Martin 2019”.
