Heterometallic Lanthanide/Mercury Complexes of Sarcosine and L-Proline

Reaction of mercury(II) acetate, hydrated M(NO3)3 (where M = La-Yb) with sarcosine or L-proline in methanol produces heterometallic complexes of stoichiometry [(HgL2)2 M(NO3)3] (where L is the amino acid anion). Sarcosine also forms the compounds ((HgL2)2Y(NO3)3], [(HgL2)2Th(NO3]4, [(HgL2)3 Zn2(NO3)4].,These compounds were characterised by spectroscopic methods, as crystals suitable for X-ray studies were not obtained.
