The reaction between 3-formylsalicylic acid and 2-aminothiophenol yielded the thiazoline (2) instead of the ligand H3L (3). The treatment of metal acetate under refluxing condition rearranges the thiazoline structure to Schiff base complexes. The complexes of copper(II) (4), nickel(II) (5), zinc(II) (6), palladium(II) (7) and uranyl(vi) (8) have been synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, ic, uv-vis and thermal studies and partly by 1H nmr, magnetic and cyclic voltammetric measurements.
