Mordellistena purpurascens Costa, 1854: 17

Type locality. “Regno di Napoli” [former Kingdom of Naples], Italy.
Material examined. Lectotype by designation of Selnekovič & Kodada (2019) (Fig. 8), male, MZFN: new box, labelled: “ Mordellistena purpurascens n. Napoli [original Costa’s label] | LECTOTYPE Mordellistena purpurascens Costa, 1854 D. Selnekovič des. 2019 [red label]”; glued; genitalia stored in microvial; right metatarsus missing. Additional specimens in the series: 1 specimen (sex undetermined), MZFN: new box, labelled: “S. Severina ” [unidentified specimen belonging to M. gemellata species group].
Current status. Valid species.
Remarks. Correction of the confusion regarding the identity of M. purpurascens, lectotype designation and redescription are provided by Selnekovič & Kodada (2019).
