Description

Tonnoiriella andradei sp. nov.

(Fig. 47)

Material: 1♂, holotype, Portugal: Manteigas, Guarda, 30 July 2009, (40°22’10.4”N / 07°33’04.4”W) leg. Andrade (in coll. RW).

Description: Head eyebridge of 3 facet rows; distance between eyes 3.5 facet diameters; one row of postocular bristles. Antenna with scape, pedicel and 14 flagellomeres; absolute length: 0.044-0.050-0.044-0.042-0.042-0.040- 0.042-0.042-0.044-0.042-0.038-0.036-0.034-0.028- 0.022-0.028 mm; relative length: 22-25-22-21-21-20-21-21-22- 21-19- 18-17-14-11 -14; terminal flagellomere with a short apiculus. Pairs of digitate ascoids on flagellomeres 5–11. Palpus segments absolute length: 0.072-0.094- 0.114-0.220 mm; relative length: 36-47-57-110.

Wing 2.63 times longer than wide; length 2.14 mm, width 0.82 mm.

Male terminalia (Fig. 47) hypandrium with a single median extension. Gonocoxites approximately 2.5x longer than wide, 1 long seta on inner surface near base. Gonostyli 1.5 times longer than gonocoxites, slightly bent, tapered.

Parameres with small ventral lobes, no median extension of the ventral bridge, middle extensions oval with tips converging. Aedeagus with basiphallus dorsoventrally flattened; dorsal lobe thin almost straight, no dorsal distiphallus; ventral lobe broader and longer, distally a flexible connection with the cross distiphallus sclerite. The ventral distiphallus sclerite with a rhomboid basal part connected to the basiphallus, and an almost straight cross part.

Epandrium longer than wide, basally with 2 foramina; epandrial processes as long as epandrium, straight with 14 feathered tenacula, the apical ones shorter. Hypoproct rhomboid, setose.

Etymology: The epithet honours the collector Rui Andrade.

Distribution: Portugal (Iberian Peninsula).

Remarks: The shape of the distiphallus sclerite is similar to T. fontinalis (island of Corsica and Sardinia) and T. atlantica (Algeria, Tunisia), all appearing as cross almost straight sclerite with triangular or rhomboid prolongation towards the ventral basiphallus lobe. However, the dorsal lobe is single, not bipartite, and the shape of the hypandrium differs.
