GASIFICATION OF LIGNIN RICH SOLID WASTE AND PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN IN A 200 KWTH PILOT PLANT

Description

The solid residue of biorefining activities, namely the production of 2nd generation ethanol, was gasified in a pilot plant based on an updraft gasifier and equipped with cleaning and upgrading sections to remove tar and to increase the hydrogen content in the syngas. The operation of the facility proved that fixed beds can be used to gasify this feedstock despite the high content of lignin, a macromolecule whose thermoplastic behaviour at low temperature is well known. The obtained gas composition and yields are comparable with those reported for other virgin biomass converted in similar gasifiers.
