Pectis linifolia Linnaeus 1759

  • 1. Department of Botany, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, UK

Description

Pectis linifolia Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1221. 1759.

["Habitat in America."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1250. 1763. RCN: 6427.

Lectotype (Keil in Rhodora 80: 139. 1978): Browne, Herb. Linn. No. 1011.2 (LINN).

Generitype of Pectis Linnaeus (vide Britton & Millspaugh, Bahama Fl.: 456. 1920).

Current name: Pectis linifolia L. (Asteraceae).

Note: Although P. ciliaris was designated as generitype by Britton & Brown (Ill. Fl. N. U. S., ed. 2, 3: 514. 1913), Keil (in Taxon 34: 283. 1985) argued that this choice conflicts with the generic description, and that P. linifolia is the generitype. Verbesina linifolia L. (1759) was published simultaneously and evidently applies to the same taxon.
