A brief account of the raw materials, fluxes and mineralizers used in the manufacture of portland cement is given. Different .cement modules, in terms of oxide composition normally required for its manufacture, are also given. Major chemical reactions involved in the manufacture of portland cement clinker, properties and hydration behavior of the cement have been discussed. Various type of cements which can be derived from portland cement are included in this article.
