Description

Triphoris (Mastonia) grayii Hinds, 1843

Triphoris (Mastonia) grayii Hinds, 1843b: 19.

Triphoris grayii Hinds, 1843 — Grillo 1877: 59.

Triforis grayi Hinds, 1843 — Tryon 1887: 191.

Type locality. Mediterranean Sea.

Type material. NHMUK 1874.9.9.2, holotype.

Distribution. Mediterranean (Hinds 1843b; Grillo 1877; Albano et al. 2019).

Remarks. The actual distribution of this species remains doubtful as specimens similar to this one have not been reported from the Mediterranean Sea so far. It is remarkably similar to the shell identified as Monophorus cf. thiriotae illustrated by Rolán & Fernández-Garcés (1993), Rolán & Peñas (2001) and Rolán (2005) from the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde Islands and other localities in West Africa.
