Synthesis, characterization and substituent effects in substituted styryl 4-chloro-1-naphthyl ketones

A series of substituted styryl 4-chloro-1-naphthyl ketones [(2E)-I-(4-chloro-l-naphthyl)-3-phenyl-2-propen-lones) were synthesized using microwave assisted condensation reaction.The yield of chalcones is more than 87%.They are characterized by their physical constants,microanalyses and spectral (IR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR) data.These spectral data are correlated with various Hammett substituent constauts. From the results of statistical analysis the effect of substituents on CO, α-and β-protons and carbons are explained.
