Description
Zu cristatus (Bonelli, 1820).
Scalloped Ribbonfish. To about 120 cm (47.2 in) TL (Olney and Hartel in Carpenter and De Angelis 2016). Circumglobal (Moore et al. 2003); western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Hayashi in Nakabo 2002); central California (34°53’N, 124°30’W) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to Chile (Pequeño 1989) and Islas Galápagos (Miller and Lea 1972). Epipelagic to mesopelagic; depth: surface to about 1,200 m (3,936 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Martin 2015). Author’s date listed as Bonelli, 1819 by some authorities.
