Description
Isurus oxyrinchus Rafinesque, 1810.
Shortfin Mako. Reliably to 4.45 m (14.6 ft) TL (Capapé 1977); possibly to 5.85 m (19.4 ft) TL (Kabasakal and de Maddalena 2011). Circumglobal in warm waters; western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Yoshino and Aonuma in Nakabo 2002); British Columbia (Gillespie 1993) to Chile (Miller and Lea 1972), and Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997). Coastal and oceanic pelagic; depth: surface to 888 m (2,913 ft) (min.: Eschmeyer and Herald 1983; max.: Abascal et al. 2011).
