In a series of Paper (I-III), attempts have been made to correlate the geographical characteristics, physicochemical and engineering properties of soils of West Bengal. All the properties are to some extent interrelated. The engineering properties of soils of West Bengal (except for the North Bengal region) have been presented. However, for understanding the engineering properties of soils and their proper correlation with geographical and physico-chemical properties, a knowledge of different aspects of soil properties and their physico-chemical and engineering properties in general may be useful. These are given briefly before presenting the general conclusions regarding the engineering properties of soils of West Bengal.
