Aerial parts of Parthenium hysterophorus Linn. on chemical investigation afforded a new aliphatic ester bentriacontanyl eicosanoate along with stigmasterol, parthenin, isoparthenin and coronopilin. The structures of isolated compounds were ascertained using various spectral (IR, 1H, 13c NMR, MS) techniques and hentriacontanyl eicosanoate has been evaluated for its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans and Fusarium oxysporum.
