Hentriacontanyl eicosanoate ester from Parthenium hysterophorus Linn. and its antimicrobial activity

Aerial parts of Parthenium hysterophorus Linn. on chemical investigation afforded a new aliphatic ester bentriacontanyl eicosanoate along with stigmasterol, parthenin, isoparthenin and coronopilin. The structures of isolated compounds were ascertained using various spectral (IR, ¹H, ¹³c NMR, MS) techniques and hentriacontanyl eicosanoate has been evaluated for its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans and Fusarium oxysporum.
