Description
Subfamily Typhlopolycystidinae Evdonin, 1977
Type genus: Typhlopolycystis Karling 1956 (by original designation).
Diagnosis (emended by Artois & Schockaert (2000) and slightly adapted): Polycystididae with a proboscis of 1/8 to 1/3 of body length. Cone retractors parallel to each other. Proboscis with a thick, inner circular muscle layer. Four pairs of proboscis retractors and one pair of integument retractors. Two pairs of strong dilators on the proboscis cavity. Gonads unpaired (vitellaria may be paired). Stylet a simple plate, a gutter or a tube. Accessory stylet, if present, tubiform, proximally connected to the stylet. Accessory glandular organ mostly present. Prostate vesicle (if present) completely or partly enclosed by the proximal part of the male atrium. Female bursa terminal. A pear-shaped seminal receptacle, a sclerotized tube or a muscular bulb next to the ovo-vitelloduct (except in Papia an Stradorhynchus).
